First of all--thank you to everyone who thought of us and checked in last week--its been a wild couple of weeks! But, we survived the flood! Even though it was gross and annoying to pull the carpet up in the basement and get rid of a few sodden things, we were fortunate to not face losing our entire house and its contents. Mike was awesome! He did 99% of the work in the basement on his own, while Sophie and I did what we could, until Mike's mom come to hang out with Sophie, then we worked together to get the carpet upstairs and out of the house. (Luckily it was garbage day...and the sanitary worker even loaded the carpet into the garbage truck without fussing--unheard of!!)
Only a few neighborhoods and businesses in Des Moines were damaged, still too many, but things could have been a lot worse! We're very thankful that improvements were made after the flood of 1993, and even more thankful that the entire area's water supply remained usable--that was not the case in 1993! Our thoughts go out to those folks in our community and the rest of our state who have endured this disaster...let the rebuilding begin.
On a lighter note, enjoy the photos of Sophie during this time--she was 10 and 11 weeks when these photos were taken. As you can see, she's wearing dresses and interacting with her environment more and more each day!
